Kathleen Fluhart R.N., M.Ac., C. Ac., L. Ac. (IN) Ms. Fluhart has resided in Lexington, Kentucky for twenty-four years and is self-employed. She has worked at Lexington Complementary and Integrative Therapies since 2002. In 2007, she moved her private practice, Artemesia Classical Acupuncture, to 296 Southland Drive. At this same location, Ms. Fluhart and Dr. Zaida Belendez R.N. have opened Sunrise Community Acupuncture and Wellness Center.

Kathleen is a graduate of the Academy For Five Element Acupuncture (formerly the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture) in Gainesville, FL., graduating with a Licentiate (an English equivalent of a Bachelorís degree) in 1998 and a Masterís degree in Acupuncture from the same college in 2001. In 1999, she successfully passed the examinations required by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine earning her the title of Diplomate in Acupuncture (Dipl. Ac.)

Ms. Fluhart has been fortunate to study extensively with some of the best acupuncture educators in the United States including Professor JR Worsley, Lonnie S. Jarrett, and Dr. Richard Tan. She continues her education with various professional workshops around the country.

Kathleen has been a member of the National Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance (one of the two professional organizations for classically trained acupuncturists) since 1996. She has been on the Advisory Board of the University of Kentucky College of Medicineís Complementary and Alternative Medicine from 2002-2007. She has also been active Kentuckyís ten-year pursuit in passing legislation that regulates nationally certified acupuncturists in our Commonwealth. She is an active member in good standing with the Kentucky State Acupuncture Association and has recently been appointed to serve on the Kentucky State Medical Boardís Council to license nationally certified acupuncturists.

Kathleen has over 3000 hours of training in Classical Acupuncture and has worked in healthcare for more than thirty years. In 1969, she earned her status as a Registered Nurse, in the state of Ohio, after graduating from St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing. She has extensive experience in medical-surgical nursing, obstetrics, and pediatrics. In 1985, Kathleen graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in health education. In 1998, she finished a MA in medical anthropology.

While working on her college degrees, Kathleen also became fascinated with learning various types of massage and bodywork. In 1985, she attended a month long program in Easlen massage extended program at Easlen Institute in Big Sur, California. Soon after completion of that program, she started her studies in shiatsu (a Japanese style of acupressure) with Waturo Osashi at the Ohashi Institute in Manhattan, NY. Upon completion of that program, she began studying cranio-sacral therapy with Dr. John Upledger and his faculty at the Upledger Institute. Kathleen finished the Advanced II course in cranio-sacral therapy in 1995. Her training in bodywork also includes extended class work in clinical massage with Earl Timberlake and five courses with Fritz Smith D.O. in Zero Balancing.

Kathleen's diverse background in both Eastern and Western modalities allows her to work closely and holistically with her patients. She brings in a knowledge base of allopathic medicine as well as acupuncture, acupressure, qi gong, meditation, breath work, nutritional and lifestyle counseling and Chinese herbs. Theses modalities allow her to address the body, mind and spirit levels of her patients.
